Description:

The Sunshine Kids New Radian 80 Convertible Car Seat (SuperCool) offers advanced safety features, correct fit and plenty of comfort and proper support. Designed to be forward facing for children weighing up to 80 pounds and rear facing for five to 33 pounds, this convenient and easy-to-use seat helps keep your child safe in the car.

The Radian 80 features a five-point harness, five shoulder positions, three buckle positions and much more.
The Sunshine Kids Radian80 Car Seat offers:
  • Forward facing (up to 80 pounds) and rear facing (5 to 33 pounds).
  • Patented steel alloy frame for sturdy construction without bulky plastics.
  • Five-point harness, five shoulder positions and three buckle positions for safety and comfort.
Strong and Supportive Design
A high-capacity car seat has to be amazingly strong for a big child, but properly designed to provide the best performance for a small child. That's why the Radian80 features a patented steel alloy frame that offers unparalleled durability without a bulky plastic structure. Compared to other car seats, Radian also offers extra shoulder room, more leg support and fits three across in a car. Additionally, it has a three-inch longer seat bottom, provides infant body support and features adjustable head cushions for a comfy ride.

For added convenience, the Radian 80 is still the only car seat in the world that folds flat to a compact seven inches, so it's perfect for traveling. And because many cars do not allow top tether use with a child above 48 pounds, the LATCH-compatible Radian 80 can be used without a top tether with children who weigh up to 80 pounds.

The Radian 80 helps ensure proper positioning with a five-point harness, five shoulder positions and three buckle positions. EPS safety foam provides four-panel side impact protection in case of an accident, while the V-shaped top tether adds stability.

SafeStop System
For an extra measure of security in the car, the Radian 80 features SafeStop, a patented, energy absorbing harness system for added safety. This load-limiting harness device absorbs crash energy impacting a child in an accident by reducing peak forces on the chest and neck by up to 30 percent. This is especially important for smaller children, who typically have higher head weight to body weight ratios.

Safety Tested
An iParenting Media Award winner, the Radian 80 has been crash tested according to U.S. safety standard FMVSS213 and has met all requirements with extraordinary success. In fact, Radian significantly outperformed the crash test criteria required for a 65 pound child. Beyond its high safety rating, the Radian 80 is easy for parents to use and care for. It features a soft and durable 100 percent polyester ultra suede cover, measures 17.0 x 28.5 x 16.0 inches (WxHxD) when open, and weighs 22 pounds. For added convenience, the Radian 80 is certified for air travel.

5Comfort & safety...love this car seat!Jun 29, 2008
We purchased this car seat for our daughter and more recently for our son. They both love how comfortable it is and we love the safety factor. We've not had issues with the velcro as others have stated.

5FABULOUS car seat - incredibly easy to installJun 05, 2008
My husband and I have an older car that does not have the latch system for car seats. So any car seat we buy had to be strapped in using the belts. When we first bought this seat car seat we thought it was a bit difficult to install, but not hard. Now, after installing a different (supposedly comparable) car seat in my parents car, I think we have an incredibly easy car seat to install! The directions for installation are clear and comprehensible. the few times we moved the car seat to a rental or my parents car and utilized the latch system I couldn't believe how much easier it was than the latch system we bought for my parents car, thread through the bottom and snap in the latches... you're done! I also researched safety reviews and the Radian went beyond the requirements for safety - SOLD. It is quite heavy, but since it folds up and tucks away into a duffle bag or duffle/backpack - it's easier to travel with.

5Buying a 2nd one-Very happyMay 10, 2008
I did a ton of research on car seats to move my 1 year old up. After meeting with a safety expert (who was not paid to endorse any particular car seat) and seeing the Britax Boulevard, Recaro Signo, and Sunshine Kids Radian 80 side by side, this was the clear winner for us. She has both of her kids in this car seat too.

Winning features for us: I love that he can still be rear facing up to 33 pounds. This is a much thinner car seat than any other I looked at and fits in my tiny Honda Civic with an infant base next to it. The folding feature is great for airline travel. Up to 80 pounds, so we won't have to shop for another seat.

Wish it had: Not much more, it serves it's purpose well. It is a long seat and the front passenger seat needed to move up quite a bit to fit it in the rear facing position.

4good seatApr 10, 2008
After considering a booster seat and then doing all the research I realized that I have to go 5 point harness for the rest of my child's life! My daughter is 34 pounds at 2 years old and my second girl is 10 months and ready to move out of the infant seat. We had to make a change.
Given that the only two options were the Britax and the Sunshine Kids, I am very pleased that I bought the SK one. The Britax one in the store is huge. I have a Boulevard for our other car, so I know the quality but it only goes to 65 lbs. (I also have a Evenflow (VERY challenging straps) and a Cosco Alpha Omega - good but only 45lbs)
The things I like about SK: slim line design, folding seat, comfort for child.
Things that could be better about SK: cool fabric seems to stain easily and will get caught on the velcro on the sholder straps, if you have a clever child they can loosen the sholder straps easily by pulling UP on the relase strap and leaning forward. All of our other seats tighten with the pulling up motion of the relase strap not loosen - keep and eye out.
I would definity buy this one again (with the other fabric) and would have loved to have known about it 3 car seat purchases ago.

5Great car seat!!!Apr 03, 2008
I was able to install this car seat rear facing with no problems (my son is about 20 lbs now) and have been using it for about a month now. He falls asleep on it right away and it does not leave his back all sweaty, as his old infant seat used to.
I have not used it to travel yet, but will be in about 3 weeks. Tried folding it already and it is rewally easy. I did buy the extra carring strap though (seat comes with one and if you buy a second one you can carry it as a backpack). I really recommend the second strap as this seat is quite heavy.
